Zombie Run Saturday!
Stroll through the AU campus and try to avoid Zombies on Saturday, Oct 29 starting at 11AM. The event starts at the observatory (registration at 10:30) and ends at the statue of King Alfred. $5 for students and $10 for community members. Children under 12 are free. Refreshments at completion! Proceeds to benefit Water for Haiti AU and ACCORD. Come join the fun!
Environmental Studies Series Speaker- CJ Freeman
Please join us on Friday, Oct. 28 at 12:20 p.m. in the Roon Lecture Hall, to hear '01 alum CJ Freeman give a talk on "Beaches, Buildings and Bees: Building a community through science and sustainability". CJ is an Advanced Placement Environmental Science teacher at Floyd E. Kellam High School in Virginia Beach. He was recently recognized by the White House and EPA with the 2016 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. Only 13 awards of this kind were given out nationwide in 2016.
Entrepreneurship Expert on Campus

Dennis Kessler, a leading Rochester area entrepreneur, will be holding an open session to hear your ideas on Friday, October 28 from 10:15 - 11:15 am in Olin 400. Ask the Expert on Entrepreneurship!

Guest Speaker: Hudson Taylor
- Location: Holmes Auditorium in Harder Hall

A former all-American wrestler, Hudson Taylor will be on campus to talk about his organization, Athlete Ally, and how he came to found it. Also, he will be talking about the things he saw and encountered during his time as a student-athlete, as well as respect for all humans regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Cookies With Cops

Desmond Davis leads weekly outings with police and cookies, so students and police officers can become more comfortable with one another.
Equi-Fest: Haunted Hayride & Forest
- Location: AU Equestrian Center
- Time: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
On October 27th we will be hosting dinner and events at the Equestrian Center. Besides dinner there will be a haunted hayride and forest walk, pony rides, face painting, music, and more! Events start at 5. All proceeds benefit Water for Haiti.

AU students are FREE with a meal swipe (for dinner, other activities must be paid for), children 12 & under are $5, everyone 13 & older are $7.
Open meeting with Mark Guinan on effects of FLSA

Mark Guinan has asked ATS and Support Staff Councils to convene a special open meeting on the FLSA and the effects that it will have on the Alfred University community. This meeting is informational and to solicit input on the recommendations that have been made to the Cabinet on such topics as vacation and sick leave under the new rules, etc. All are welcome!

Starting and Sustaining an Open Access Publication

Presented By Molly Poremski and Amy Vilz, University at Buffalo’s The Reading Room

Amy Vilz and Molly Poremski, founding editors of the OA journal, The Reading Room: A Journal of Special Collections will discuss what prompted them to start a new OA journal and how the experience has been. They’ll discuss everything they’ve learned, both good and bad, since the journal’s creation in 2014.
Special Joint Meeting of the Support Staff and ATS

HR Director Guinan has called a meeting of Support Staff and Administrative and Technical Specialist employees. The topic will be a discussion on the FLSA and the effects that it will have on the Alfred University community. This meeting is informational and to solicit input on the recommendations that have been made to the Cabinet on such topics as vacation and sick leave under the new rules, etc. As the Bergren Forum is scheduled immediately afterwards there will be a need to finish the meeting on time but questions that arise will be answered off line if they are not addressed during the meeting.
