Chemical Waste Removal
The spring/summer chemical waste removal will occur during May 2016. Both hazardous and non-regulated waste will be accepted.

All chemical waste must be received in your respective Central Accumulation Area (CAA) no later than Thursday, May 26, 2016. All colleges (Harder Hall, McMahon, and Myers CAAs) contact Dean Perry x 2196 or Travis Reed x 2190 for receipt of your hazardous and non-regulated waste.
Completed Hazardous Waste and Non-Regulated Waste Log Forms MUST be sent to EH&S no later than Thursday, May 26th and may be mailed (117 Myers Hall), faxed to x2086, or scanned and e-mailed to: The hazardous waste packers must have this information prior to packing in order to obtain required approvals from the disposal facility.

All Satellite Accumulation Area labels MUST be filled-out completely with EPA# for respective college, building name, Room # or area name, start date, initials, chemical name(s) of constituents in the accumulation container with volume or weight, and waste characteristics prior to receipt in Central Accumulation. Note: Per EPA regulations you have only 72 hours from an SAA full date to transfer the container to the proper CAA. SAA containers must be capped or sealed with container lid, have clean exterior, and SAA label easily legible. If you have any questions contact Dean Perry.
All Satellite Accumulation Areas must be empty prior to May 30th, with a notation to that effect made on your submitted May or June 2016 Satellite Accumulation Area Weekly Inspection sheet. Reminder: Any SAA’s which collect waste during the summer and are not empty over the summer must have the weekly inspection log maintained and submitted to EH&S on a weekly basis.

23-May-16 — Scholes Library presented prestigious award for 'Harry Potter's World' project

Alfred University’s (AU) Scholes Library of Ceramics is winner of a prestigious John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award for its fall 2015 “Harry Potter’s World” project. Scholes is one of eight national/international libraries selected by five judges from dozens of entries.

With art librarian Eva K. Sclippa as coordinator, Scholes Library brought in the National Library of Medicine’s traveling Harry Potter exhibit and created around it a comprehensive marketing campaign that both showcased its own collections as well as staff creativity. The project celebrated all things Potter in a tiered campaign that brought the entire community – campus and village – together.

An article written by Dr. Sylvia Bryant of Alfred, current mental health counseling major in the University’s graduate program, appears in the spring 2016 edition of the NARACES (North Atlantic Region Association for Counselor Education and Supervision). “Intersection and Interstices: Becoming a Culturally Competent Counselor” discusses how counselors can work to achieve multicultural counseling competence.

It was 30 years ago when the late Robert Turner, a professor emeritus of ceramic art, observed that “Alfred University really should have a museum of ceramic art.”

18-May-16 — Students, clubs receive honors during annual spring Student Leadership Dinner

A number of Alfred University (AU) students and clubs were recognized for outstanding contributions to the campus during the annual spring Student Leadership Dinner. Honored groups included club and organization presidents, orientation guides, student-athletes, Alfred’s Newest Talent graduates, Women’s Leadership Academy graduates, resident assistants (RA), and Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior nominees.
